Matthew 5: 16-19….. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till Heaven and Earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore she’ll break one of these least Commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same Shall be Called great in the Kingdom of Heaven…
Paraphrased comments on Matthew 5 16 through 19: the smallest letter…. the least stroke…. the smallest Hebrew letter is… yodh…. which looks like an apostrophe… (‘)…. a stroke is a very small extension or protrusion on several Hebrew letters, which distinguish these letters from similar ones ( like, in English, an R from a P). The Lord’s point is that every letter of every word of the Old Testament is vital and will be fulfilled.
Finished with chapter 5 verse 20…. your righteousness…. we may understand this as….” your practice of religion”… the Pharisees righteousness was external; it should be internal.
