Isaiah 34 : 4 — And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

It has been interpreted in prophetic language, the heavenly luminaries represent kings, empires, and states. This is a foretelling of the destruction of states and kingdoms that were hostile to his church whether in Jewish or Christian dispensation. ( Note: Benson disagrees with this interpretation)

And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved ... Isaiah is contrasting the transitoriness of the sun, moon, and stars, with the eternity of God. Greek poets have sung ” life of the generations of men is as the life of the leaves of trees” (Homer, //. vi 146) It seems Isaiah was contemplating a vision of a time when even the host of heaven would fall as “a leaf from the vine, and as a fig from the fig tree. ( Ellicot commentary, Bible Hub, Issiah 34:4 ) … Commentary by me: “It will not be necessarily sad, but every time I see a leaf swirling to the ground, I will think of someone dying and that’s okay, it’s all part of the life cycle”

Ref: Isaiah 34 : 1- 8 … Here, all nations are concerned. All nations have had the benefit of God’s patience, so it is only fair that we endure His resentment.

Concluding for now, as this is “deep water”… The beautiful language of Isaiah 34:4 has been interpreted in many ways. Rather than honing in on a dogmatic interpretation, I would rather think of the majesty and power of God, and Isaiah being motivated to respect and reveal that power in his ( led by the Holy Spirit) language. I remember reading somewhere that I can’t recall right now; that if we travel billions of light-years away and look back at the universe, it appears as a tapestry, as an expanse. So my thoughts drift to dreaming of God’s perspective ( or view) Imagine God our creator, so much higher, above and beyond his creation that he could quite simply “roll the whole thing up as a scroll, put it in his pocket and walk on down the streets of gold.” ( figuratively speaking ) … Frankie believes in trying to bring some things down to good old golden “Street language” … Frankie The Earthman.

Afterthought, as I was wrapping up this post I was enjoying a thought of Jesus, after having ” rolled up this present dispensation of time into a scroll and tying a ribbon around it ” … walking over to his heavenly bookcase and placing what would be THIS, “one of many scrolls representing universes” that He has created throughout eternity. I don’t know about this, but all things are possible with God. I don’t think “we humans” have even begun to scratch the surface of how “wonderful He is” or HOW MUCH HE WANTS A FAMILY THAT LOVES HIM … We are too busy with ourselves. Frankie.
