We are in Revelation chapter 8, looking at the 7 trumpets. As I have mentioned in earlier posts, if you think things are bad now, they will pale in comparison to the coming Tribulation. Then the fourth angel sounded: and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened. a third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night (Revelation 8:12).
When the fourth angel sounds his trumpet, the skies as we know them will be changed forever. A third of the sun, moon, and stars will be darkened. This is a fascinating judgment to contemplate. The first part of the verse makes it sound like 1/3 of the sun is now dark, one-third of the moon is now dark, and one-third of the stars no longer shine, and that seems like an impossibility.
The earth would freeze immediately if 1/3 of the sun stopped burning. The second part of the verse may hold the key to what is happening: “A third of the day did not shine and likewise the night.” I think that it is very possible that for 1/3 of the day and one third of the night, the earth will be plunged into utter darkness. During those hours, the light of the sun is gone, its reflection on the moon is gone, and the light from the heavenly hosts is obscured.
Can we imagine how terrifying this would be? Surely, this will cause some to stretch their necks towards the skies, seeking answers. People learned in ‘End Time’ events will recognize what is happening. However, others not so informed will be clueless. Stay tuned for the fifth angel to sound his trumpet in my next post.
